Zalando Lounge Apps.
Lead Product Designer.

As Lead Product Designer at Zalando Lounge, Zalando's off-price sub-brand, I introduced a new visual language to the brand. I Led Product Design to help ship a brand new Android App that reached almost 1 million active users in less than six months. While also introducing a wholly revamped iOS experience, which correlated to a significant increase in engagement and conversion rate.

Mission Statement.

"Offer discounted brands without compromising the look and feel of the product while establishing a strong visual design language for the platform and creating a space for the brands to express themselves."

A New Visual Language.

Clear and consistent rules are what make languages successful. Inconsistencies, ambiguity, or straight-up contradictions can make learning languages very hard. The same applies to a Visual Design Language. To elevate the look and feel of our apps and maintain a consistent look across platforms, We introduced a refreshed Visual System, a set of guidelines and principles for typography, photography, and iconography.

Layout & Composition.

Maintaining a consistent brand appearance is of the utmost importance, and typography plays a critical role in achieving this goal. I collaborated with the brand experience team to introduce new guidelines around the usage of colors, fonts, and brand logos to ensure a unified visual identity across platforms while leaving just the right amount of expressions to the brands.

Photography.

I collaborated with our internal photo studio to establish new standards, compositions, and guidelines and incorporate high-resolution photos and imagery for our products. Additionally, I ensured that in-house and partner campaigns were cohesive in terms of look and feel, appearance, and aesthetics.

Iconography.

A complete revamp to our Iconography Language with clear icons that save space, reduce cognitive load, reflect our brand's new look and feel, help establish trust and recognition with our customers, and create a cohesive look across all our digital channels.

Content is UX.

With clear typography, intuitive layout, high-quality photography, and easy navigation, Content was our focal point. Designing around the Content lets the user focus on the Content, not the design itself, resulting in a more engaging and delightful user experience.

Expressive Details.

Ensuring the usage of only High-Quality photography for Campaigns and Product Images helps establish a brand's identity and credibility and convey a sense of trust and quality. In addition, a clear-to-understand Product Detail Page (PDP) enables the user to be more confident in making a purchase decision.

See It In Action.

The fluidity of content and design allows our users to explore and discover new campaigns, products, and brands, making the experience joyful, seamless, and engaging, correlated to more engagement and higher conversion.

The Joy Of Shipping.

The redesign of the Zalando Lounge Apps on iOS and the new app on Android was a great success; combined contributed to more than 55% of the total GMV.

The iOS app became the number one app in the shopping category in the App Store top charts for several weeks, maintaining an average of 4.5 starts. While the new Android App boosted almost a million downloads within the first three months of the launch while maintaining an average of 4.4 stars.

The new visual language and the redesign established the foundation of the future app and brand experience, and four years later, many of these foundations can still be seen in the current apps.
